Preschool Band

This week we have been practicing playing various musical instruments and are working towards creating a preschool band. Obi leads our band with his harmonica - he brings this special harmonica every day and can be seen playing it in the playground and on our music walks.

Obi is very confident in his ability and he is not afraid to get up in front of everyone to start the music practice.

Friday 13th September practice:

The children choose their own instruments and are then slowly introduced into the band based on the tone of their instrument. Bells first, then tambourine's and lastly the wooden clapping sticks. This gives our practice structure and teaches the children about the different sounds and blends.

Next week we will be adding Aiken on the xylophone and the guitar will be shared between children.

Mud Glorious Mud

Our first day in the mud....

Mud has become an everyday part of our play at preschool. We have a mud trough and have been making mud using the watering cans. Once the mud is wet enough we take our shoes off and get in.

The mud feels cold, slimy, gooey and slippery on our feet.

At first we are very timid in our movements and a little bit worried about getting dirty.

But if our friends are brave enough to get in well why would we not give it a go too.

Soon Kara demonstrates how to slide in the mud and we all start to relax and play in the mud...

Peyton and Isabelle call out to their peers encouraging them to "come in" and "have a go" Isabelle runs up and back in the mud and Peyton sits in the mud playing with her animals.

Yo Yo was an onlooker for some time and once she was sure it was safe decided to get in - slowly. She smiled as we made some extra gooey mud for her to wiggle her toes in.

Our second day in the mud...

Now we can see here today we had no issues with getting dirty or feeling squirmy... Joey and Sam found out that if you jump you can splash the mud up, down and to the side.

Yay - Jumping in muddy puddles is AWESOME...

Soon the jumping was not enough though and a full mud fight began between Gracie and Aiken. This is the end result for Aiken.....

Joey got caught in the middle and was not very happy about it at first but in the end he wore his mud proudly. Summer came over to get some mud pies - made earlier and was shocked at Aiken and Joey's appearance she ran back to her friends and warned them to stay away from the 'Mud People'.

As we hosed Aiken, Gracie and Joey clean Aiken commented that getting grubby "is just part of the fun, hey Erin"
