Where did these rocks come from?
The children approached these rocks with curiosity, uncertainty and surprise! Banjo loudly asks as he pushes a rock: "WHERE DID YOU GET THESE COOL ROCKS????"
Pack up time began and we had a team of eager rock movers to roll our very cool rocks into the shed... but wait! Do rocks need to be packed away or are they a part of our outdoor environment? Can they be left out in the rain? I ask the children these questions and they decide to keep them outside saying (loudly): "Yeah! they're rocks!!"
The corregation of rock movers increased, questions about the goings on were shared and a consensus to climb was made! The rocks are so open ended they take on many roles: Stepping stones, dinosaur nests, wheelbarrow fodder and even the entrance to a trap door! The interest and perseverence demonstrated by the children when playing with these rocks reveals how important natural resources are for children's learning.
Our journey with rocks has just begun, we have much to explore and are rapidly increasing our quota of rocks within our outdoor environment!
